Dr. Ndack Wadji Ly, MLI Country Lead for Senegal, is a health economist and dental surgeon. She has been the focal point of the Macroeconomics and Health unit of the CAFSP (Support Cell for Health Funding and Partnership) since November 2004.
After receiving her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1997, she held the position of Chief of Service in the dental office for the districts of Khombole and Bambey. She was in charge of providing oral care to populations, teaching oral hygiene and performing supervisory activities. She also received training in community health at the University of Florida, USA, in 2001 and 2002.
Within the scope of her activities at the CAFSP, she coordinated the development of the first National Health Accounts in Senegal. She gained experience in terms of managing the technical committee and coordinating and budgeting funds from the Technical and Financial Partners (TFP). Thus, she was able to work with several partners (WHO, UNPFA, Coopération Française, Abt/Associates, etc.) within the framework of a well planned technical and financial support. She was also in charge of coordinating the multisectorial approach by linking several sectors such as education and agriculture to the health department.
In addition, her stay at the World Health Organization (WHO) as a program manager for health economics taught her the procedures and operations of some TFP. The WHO, leader of the partners in Senegal, organizes coordination meetings among partners, during which all issues linked to health leadership and funding are discussed.
