Musimbi Kanyoro is the President and CEO of the Global Fund for Women. Previously, she was the Director of the Population Program of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation which focuses on critical global health issues and other education and development issues. From 1998 to 2007, Dr. Kanyoro served as General Secretary of the World YWCA, a global umbrella organization representing YWCAs in 125 countries, with an outreach to 25 million people worldwide. As General Secretary, she worked closely with global leaders from United Nations agencies, the World Bank, governments, businesses, and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). Her role included participation in high-level delegations, political negotiations and strategic thinking forums on global issues. She also serves on the boards of the African Population and Health Research Centre (APHRC), the Global Coalition on Women and AIDS (INAIDS) and the Legacy Foundation Dr. Kanyoro received her undergraduate degree from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, and her MA and Ph.D from the University of Texas, Austin. She also completed a doctorate of ministry at San Francisco Theological School in San Anselmo, California, and was a visiting scholar at Harvard University.
