Nepal: Building Skills to Negotiate with Development Partners

August 9, 2010 – August 12, 2010

Senior staff from Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population attended a Negotiating Health Development Leadership Training Program facilitated by MLI, which built upon a pilot training in September 2009.  The course, which was conducted in August 2010, helped advance and refine the staff’s capacity to manage vital relationships, mitigate potential conflict and conduct negotiations related to health. CMPartners, a premiere conflict management and negotiation firm, conducted the training and emphasized negotiation theory, analysis and preparation and hands-on application.

The training relied on case studies and interactive exercises based in the health sector so that staff could seamlessly transfer their newly acquired skill-set to their daily work at the Ministry. In the spirit of peer learning and country to country sharing, Dr. Samake, the Director of Planning and Statistics in the Ministry of Health in Mali, attended the workshop to both contribute negotiation experiences from his country and to take key lessons learned back to his home Ministry. The report can be viewed here.
